Come join your friends and neighbors at a weekend celebration with a creative spin!
The 1600 block of Sherman Avenue, a portion of 16th Street, and the parking lot of The Dealer Alternative (1603 E. Sherman) will be temporarily transformed into a dog and family-friendly Makers District on September 18-19. This free community block party celebration will be complete with live music, food trucks, a beer garden, lawn games, the Sorensen Elementary School jugglers, and other entertainment. The event is organized by the Coeur d’Alene Association of REALTORS® and the City of Coeur d’Alene in partnership with CDA 2030 and is funded by a Better Block Grant with additional funds being contributed by the Coeur d’Alene Association of REALTORS®.
The temporary transformation will showcase what revitalization could look like on East Sherman in a Makers District where local businesses create their goods. Parking spaces will be temporarily converted into a pop-up park and a “vegetated” parking strip complete with street trees and flowers. The road will be temporarily narrowed to demonstrate how it could accommodate an on-street bike lane, narrower travel lanes, and landscaping. Other temporary changes will include faux building façades, decorations, and vendors to illustrate the types of businesses that might be located in a Makers District.
The Makers District theme, a pocket park with bocce ball, shade trees, and more landscaping were all top responses from the 2015 East Sherman survey, which is a component of the visioning effort to revitalize the east end of Sherman Avenue.
