Our last Upbeat Breakfast of 2019 is sponsored by the Christian Center School. December's speaker is Kelsey Orlando, Education Specialist for Panhandle Health District. Ms. Orlando will be speak to us about the opioid crisis in North Idaho.
Kelsey Orlando's passion for public health work began as a U.S Peace Corps volunteer in The Gambia, West Africa working in a rural village. She has now been in her position of health education specialist at Panhandle Health District since early 2017. Currently, Kelsey coordinates the drug overdose prevention program, working with local clinics, pharmacists, and the community to decrease opioid misuse, abuse, and overdose. Kelsey leads the Prescription Opioid Solutions (PRxOS) efforts which is the North Idaho community-based partnership focused on prevention, harm reduction, access to treatment, and community resources. She is the co-lead on the Idaho Statewide Opioid Strategic plan patient education workgroup, and active member of the SPAN lethal means subcommittee addressing suicide prevention and response strategies.
Upbeat Breakfast occurs the second Tuesday of every month. On average 150 members attend, making it one of the most popular networking events in our community. Trade tables allow members to display their business and briefly address the group. The program features a different speaker each month, highlighting various topics of interest. With a reservation, the cost is $17 and includes breakfast and coffee. Cost for attendees without a reservation is $25.
