Power of the Sketchbook: From Concept to Creation” – Robert Grimes, Victoria Brace and Glenn Grishkoff
Rarely on public display, the artist’s sketchbook captures drawings and ideas that serve as the foundation of the artistic process.  And, in the words of artist Glenn Grishkoff, “these small visual tidbits of time and space allow for greater intimate connections for the birth of concepts and developing a unique style true to oneself.” The Art Spirit Gallery is grateful to its three featured artists as they share a handful of their private sketchbooks for viewing in this special exhibition.
Robert Grimes, mixed media artist – Spokane, WA
Robert Grimes is celebrated throughout the Northwest for his intricate, three-dimensional paintings on carved wood that take on the aesthetic qualities of both painting and sculpture.  For this exhibition, in addition to creating new work Robert has unearthed a number of pieces from his personal collection to showcase.
Robert received an MFA in sculpture from Indiana University.  The Art Spirit Gallery has proudly exhibited his work since it opened its doors in 1997.
Victoria Brace, oil painter – Spokane, WA
Born and educated in Russia, Victoria Brace is well known for her figurative work and cityscapes. “I like structure; human body has structure, still life has structure, cities have structure.”  Victoria will showcase a number of landscapes and cityscapes inspired by her recent travels to places dear to her heart.
Victoria graduated from the Moscow College of Art with a BA in painting and art education.  The Art Spirit Gallery has proudly exhibited her work since 2008.
Glenn Grishkoff, ceramicist – Anaheim, CA
Glenn is a professor of art and ecology at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.  The artist has taught, performed, and exhibited nationally and internationally in Japan, South Africa, and Thailand. For this exhibition, Glenn will present a new collection from his Homage Brush Bouquet series that pays respect both to the animal hairs used and the animal spirit.
Glenn holds a MFA from Claremont Graduate University and a BFA from California State Fullerton.  The Art Spirit Gallery has proudly exhibited his work since 2004.

Apr 13 - May 5    The Great Ceramic Revival
For its April exhibition, The Art Spirit Gallery celebrates the great ceramic revival by collaborating with highly acclaimed guest curator Peter Held, who has thoughtfully procured twenty top regional clay artists, many of whom he formed deep relationships with at the Archie Bray Foundation during his twenty-plus years in Helena, Montana. Peter describes these years as "an enlightening era that afforded me a depth of knowledge of ceramic activity in the Northwest." For this exhibition, Peter selected artists primarily working with vessel format, producing functional ware or decorative works.  "While their individual styles vary, combined, they reveal an exciting survey of artists from the Northwest, providing a clay continuum spanning four decades of artistic excellence."

In his impressive three-decade career as a museum director and contemporary art curator, Peter has organized more than 200 exhibitions, including seven national traveling shows. He has received three of the highest accolades possible within the field from the Friends of Contemporary Ceramics; the Smithsonian’s James Renwick Alliance, and the National Council for Education on the Ceramic Arts.  The Art Spirit Gallery is honored to partner with Peter in this special exhibition.

This show is sponsored by Collective Kitchen – we thank them for their continued support of the arts in our community.”

Business After Hours is held on the fourth Thursday of every month. This networking event provides an opportunity for members to show off their offices or facilities. Food and beverages are provided by the sponsor business. There are drawings for door prizes. This is a great way to meet other Chamber members in a more casual “after work” atmosphere.
