John  Ortmann has been involved in many different aspects of law enforcement. After leaving college, he served in the Army Military Police. He went on to become a city policeman and detective before completing his thirty-four year as a game warden. His memoir, "It it Routine?" covers many of his adventures during his varied career.

His wife of fifty years, Joan, and their three children supported him throughout his career. Ortmann currently lives in Coeur D'Arlene, Idaho.

Christine is back & sharing her latest Glacier Mystery Series book "The Weight of Night", a gripping tribute to the power of redemption set against one of America's most majestic and unforgiving landscapes.

Christine is a  recipient of the Womens’ National Book Association Pinckley Prize, the Silver Falchion Award and a finalist for the High Plains Book Award. After earning a pilot’s license, pursuing various adventures in Norway, and working a brief stint as a flight attendant, she got an MA in English and linguistics and taught college-level courses. She still teaches, in a vastly different realm, as the owner of a Pilates studio. A Florida native, she and her family live in Whitefish, Montana.

Dr. Branstetter will share her fascinating research behind "Sex in the Silver Valley: A Business Doing Pleasure." Combining historical narrative and first hand accounts, we'll have a great time learning about this quite colorful part of North Idaho history!

Dr. Branstetter is a Silver Valley native with a PhD in rhetoric, writing and cultural studies at the University of North Carolina. She is currently the executive director of the Historic Wallace Preservation Society.

This month's Business After Hours will be hosted by Blackhawk Funding, with music by Casey Ryan. Appetizers and refreshments from LePeep.



Business After Hours is held on the fourth Thursday of every month. This networking event provides an opportunity for members to show off their offices or facilities. Food and beverages are provided by the sponsor business. There are drawings for door prizes. This is a great way to meet other Chamber members in a more casual ?after work? atmosphere.
