The NIC Philosophy Department, together with the English and Humanities Division, is honored to have Dr. Bauerlein deliver our keynote address. Bauerlein is Professor of English at Emory University, where he has been teaching since receiving his Ph.D. in English at UCLA in 1989. In addition, Dr. Bauerlein served as Director of the Office of Research and Analysis at the National Endowment of the Arts from 2003-2005. He is probably most well-known for the Nautilus Award winning 2009 bestseller, The Dumbest Generation: How the Digital Age Stupefies Young Americans and Jeopardizes Our Future, which the Amazon.com review calls “a startling examination of the intellectual life of young adults and a timely warning of its impact on American culture and democracy." Submission Guidelines
Papers on any philosophical topic are welcome from both professionals and graduate students. Papers should be suitable for a 20-minute presentation (about 3000 words, not including material that will not be presented, such as abstract, bibliography, and any footnotes or endnotes). Submissions should be formatted for blind review (only title at top of Page 1) and sent as Word or PDF documents to Ed Kaitz at eekaitz@nic.edu.
In the body of the email, please include paper title, 100- to 200-word abstract, author name, affiliation, status (graduate student or faculty), contact information, and where you heard about the conference. Within two business days, you will receive email confirmation that your paper has been submitted successfully. Papers should be approximately 3,000 words (10-12 pages).
Submission deadline is Sept. 1, 2015. Final decisions will be made no later than Sept. 10, 2015. Those who submit papers before an early Aug. 15 deadline will be notified of their acceptance before Sept. 1.
To facilitate and encourage discussion, paper sessions will have session chairs rather than commentators for individual papers.

| Cardboard Box City (CBC) in Coeur d’Alene is a homeless awareness/fundraiser for Family Promise of North Idaho (FPNI) October 9-10 at Community United Methodist Church. Cardboard Box City begins with participating groups signing in at 3:00p.m. October 9th. In the weeks before the event, groups who want to participate can get packets on-line at www.familypromiseni.org or at the FPNI Day Center at 501 E. Wallace in Coeur d’Alene. During the weeks before October 9th participants are gathering pledges for the privilege of spending one night in a box for those who spend many nights sleeping in a box. The evening of the 9th participants are building homes for judging, eating at a soup kitchen, listening to music, getting prizes, making s’mores, getting swag, and watching Mayor Steve Widmyer open the 8th annual CBC. Ten O’Clock is lights out. Participants are woken at 6:00a.m. on October 10th for breakfast and clean -up. The Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce will hold its Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Wednesday, October 28, at 11:30am at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Conference Center. Each year, various leadership roles change hands. This year's Chairman of the Board, JJ Jaeger, will introduce the incoming 2016 Chairman.
Tickets are $40 each, tables of 8 $300.

 This year's guest speaker is Mike Towne, Vice President/GM, Frontier Communications Corporation. Michael Towne has extensive domestic and international experience in planning, developing and operating telecommunications companies.
Mike began his telecom career with Pacific Northwest Bell, an AT&T company in the Seattle area and continued to work for US West, and he accepted a 5-year international assignment in Southeast Asia where he was responsible for bringing world-class telecommunication services to the western half of the Java Island of Indonesia and managed the 5,200-telecom employees.
Returning to the United States in 2001 as Vice-President General Manager for AT&T Wireless Services, he retired in 2002. After failing retirement, he accepted a position as Vice President General Manager for CenturyTel responsible for Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming. In July of 2007 he left CenturyTel and accepted a General Manager position with Frontier Communications in Arizona responsible for Bullhead, Ft. Mohave, Mohave Valley and Needles California until June 2008 when he was promoted to Area General Manager responsible for Idaho, Utah, Montana and Nevada. Currently he is Vice President & General Manager responsible for Idaho, Montana, Eastern Washington & Oregon.
During his career Mike has been deeply involved in numerous service organizations such as the Eagle Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for six years and President of the Board for two, Mohave County/La Paz County Labor Workforce Board, one of the founding members and President of the Economic Council of Eagle County, board member of the Bullhead Regional Economic Development Authority and the board of the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Mike is a trained facilitator for the Covey Leadership Institute, teaching the 7 Habits of Highly Effective people to business leaders internationally and in the US.
