The mission of the Coeur d'Alene Area Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee is to serve as a link between the education community and businesses to actively support quality education and to provide a well-trained workforce in the Coeur d'Alene area.

 2011 GOALS  
In pursuit of this mission, the Committee will identify educational issues that would benefit from understanding by or support from the business community.  The Committee will then create forums, surveys, ad hoc groups, etc to bring those issues to the business community and to mobilize the business community in support of those specifics. 
 
More specifically, it will: 
  1. Create opportunities within the business community for the discussion of timely education issues.      
  2.   
  3. Communicate information about education issues to the Public Policy Committee and provide position statements for key issues.
  4.  
     
  5. Recognize and promote excellence in education, in part through:

               Partnership Recognition (A+ Education Award)
               Scholarship Awards, Scholars Breakfast 
               New Educator Reception
                Senior Projects

The Coeur Group presents the Gubernatorial Candidate Forum to be held on Friday, October 3, at noon in the Community Room of the Coeur d’Alene, Library.

At this time confirmations have been received from Butch Otter, A.J. Balukoff and John T. Bujak. Jill Humble has declined.  Pankey is a tentative at the moment and we have been unable to connect with Pro Life (Marvin Richardson) yet.

The forum will bepresented in a  Q & A format. Peter Smith from Lukins & Annis will act as moderator. Brent Lyles from Elk Point Enterprises, and Jimmy McAndrew from Wells Fargo Home Mortgage will be the panelists. CDA TV will be televising the forum on Channel 19.

Family Promise of North Idaho's 7th Annual Homeless Awareness and Fundraising Event Cardboard Box City will be hosted at Fernan Elementary School 520 N. 21st. October 3-4.  Participating groups and individuals collect pledges for the privilege of sleeping one night in a cardboard box for the homeless who sleep everynight in a box.  Sign in begins at 3:00 p.m. on Oct. 3rd. The Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce will hold its 102nd Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Thursday, October 30, at 11:30am at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Conference Center. Each year, various leadership roles change hands. This year's Chairman of the Board, Heather Wichman, will introduce the incoming 2015 Chairman.

Guest Speaker: Jason Thackston
Senior Vice President,
Avista Corp.

Jason Thackston is senior vice president, energy resources for Avista Corporation. He joined the company in 1996 and has held leadership positions in customer solutions, energy delivery, finance, risk management, investor relations and corporate development. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Whitworth University with a major in international studies and an emphasis in business management and earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Gonzaga University.

He serves on the board of trustees of Whitworth University as well as on the boards of the Pacific Northwest Utilities Conference Committee, the Northwest Gas Association, and the Health Sciences and Services Authority of Spokane County. Previously, he served on the boards of the YMCA of the Inland Northwest, the Northwest Business Development Association, and the Business Development Corporation of Eastern Washington.
He is responsible for overseeing the utility's gas and electric transmission and distribution operations. He previously served as Avista's vice president of finance, overseeing financing and capital activities and being involved in corporate development, investor relations, risk management, and planning and analysis.

Tickets for the luncheon are $40 per person.
