Description
Northwest Undergraduate Conference in the Humanities at North Idaho College Featuring Keynote Speaker Dr. Susan Swetnam
Join the Humanities Division of North Idaho College for an interdisciplinary conference for undergraduate students from across the region. Students are invited to present their work in any area of the humanities, including (but not limited to) literature, creative writing, philosophy, ancient and modern languages, history, ethnic studies, religious studies, women's studies, cultural studies, film and visual culture, and the fine arts.
Dr. Susan Swetnam taught in the Department of English and Philosophy at Idaho State University from 1979
until her retirement in 2013, becoming the only faculty member ever to win all three distinguished faculty awards for teaching, research, and public service. She is the author of many articles and seven books, including most recently A Season of Little Sacraments. In 2012, Books, Bluster; and Bounty was chosen as the Idaho Library Association's Idaho Book of the Year. Since 1982,
Susan has been active in public humanities work at both the state and national level, serving on the Idaho Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Susan was awarded IHC's Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities Award in 2017 for her work in public humanities, education, and writing. Currently, Susan is writing a new book, a blend of memoir and reporting, which chronicles the experience of her "retirement" career as a licensed massage therapist serving hospice patients, people with dementia, cancer survivors, and general clients.
