Friday Night Headliner: Nick Cobb
Hailing from Memphis, TN, Nick Cobb attended Indiana University where he majored in Psychology and learned to obsess over meaningless nonsense. This led him to work in his first comedy club, aptly named “The Looney Bin.” It was at a tiny Beale Street bar where Nick won a stand-up competition, was bitten by the comedy bug and moved to New York to pursue The Dream.
While in New York, Nick was seen on Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, VH1’s Morning Buzz, AMC’s Date Night as well as on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” where he not only earned a spot in the semi-finals, but was also featured in a montage of comics recognized for having highly original material.
Friday Night Featured Act: Nigel Larson
After years of drumming in rock bands, Nigel Larson switched gears and began his stand-up career as an open "mic'er" in Upstate New York. There he gained notoriety in the Rochester Metromix paper, Insider, as one of the funniest and most active comics in the Western New York region. He was named one of the "top 5 funniest in Rochester under 30" in 2008 and then was on the cover as, "the face of Rochester comedy" in 2010. Feeling like his options were limited in Western New York, and not ready for a major market like NYC, Nigel chose the city of destiny: Tacoma Washington. He hit the ground running, spending the next year as the house M. C. of the Tacoma Comedy Underground and averaging ten performances a week around the Puget Sound area. After leaving the Under-ground to pursue comedy full time, Nigel found himself in high demand working all over the Pacific Northwest. In February of 2012 alone he filmed his first TV commercial, was a finalist in the Shades of Laughs Comedy Contest, and the runner-up in both the Renton Comedy Contest and the Olympic Peninsula Comedy Contest. Nigel takes the stage with a jovial demeanor and instant likability. At first playing on his innocent appearance to establish a rapport with the audience he then quickly reveals that beneath his boyish good looks lies a cuttingly clever wit. His act is largely autobiographical, turning a lifetime of failure into consistent on-stage success with honest stories and sophisticated material. This coupled with a strong delivery makes Nigel the pleasant surprise audiences are looking for. His act is powerful enough for the drunk, indifferent crowds of a bar, yet intellectually satiating for the audiences of a college. You may see Nigel in a local Seattle TV commercial or opening for such national acts as Tommy Johnagin, Tom Rhodes, Jimmy Dore, Kyle Cease, Ty Barnett, Dwight Slade, Auggie Smith and many more! Less than a year ago, Nick took his talents to Los Angeles. Since moving out West he won the March Madness Competition at the Hollywood Improv, appeared on Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer, and had his late night debut on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. He also recently performed on AXS’s Gotham Comedy Live.
He also played the lead in the espn.com comedic web series “Team Players,” and has been seen in many commercials including Pepsi Max, Asthma.com, Joe’s Crab Shack, Carmax and starred in an e*Trade spot during halftime of the Super Bowl! When not performing standup, Nick is brooding over that one guy in the crowd who was texting during his act.
