Description
2015 North Idaho Veterans Stand Down – A Day of Appreciation for All Veterans
The 2015 North Idaho Veterans Stand Down will take place May 9th at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is held annually to provide services to homeless and disadvantaged veterans in the five northern counties. The North Idaho Stand Down is a St. Vincent de Paul event and supported by American Legion Post 143, VFW Post 889, Elks Lodge and US Department of Veterans Affairs. It is an opportunity for the community to come together and show their appreciation to all veterans who have served their country. Services from organizations that provide medical, dental, housing, clothing, food assistance, haircuts, massages and bike repair will be available. Heritage Health will be onsite to provide medical and dental screenings for families of veterans and non-qualifying veterans. Businesses who have open positions will be taking applications for immediate employment. A hot meal will be served to all veterans, volunteers and service providers. Military surplus will be part of the event, but due to a new VA mandate, surplus will only be distributed to homeless veterans. This will be the 22nd year of the Stand Down and serves as a kick off to a program created by St. Vincent de Paul to assist veterans and their families with services throughout the year. Volunteers are still needed and anyone interested should register online at http://www.kootenaiunitedway.org/ or by calling Connie Clark at (208) 660-2030. If you would like to donate, make checks to the North Idaho Veterans Stand Down, c/o St. Vincent de Paul, 201 E. Harrison Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814. For more information about the Stand Down or veterans assistance, call Eric Swanbeck, St. Vincent de Paul Veteran Services Coordinator at (208) 664-3095, ext. 314.
